RustZBig5, GBK, Unicode — and Traditional ⇄ Simplified

A cross-platform rewrite of ConvertZ. Batch-convert Chinese text files between encodings, convert script with a phrase-aware dictionary, and repair mojibake — on macOS, Windows and Linux.

Every Chinese encoding

Big5, GBK, UTF-8, UTF-16 and HZ, plus Shift_JIS, EUC-JP and ISO-2022-JP. Detection reads the bytes — BOM first, then UTF-8, then whichever legacy encoding produces the most common characters.

Phrases, not just characters

The default engine splits text into phrases with OpenCC's 49,000-entry dictionary, so 头发 becomes 頭髮 and 发展 becomes 發展. Taiwan glyphs and Taiwan vocabulary (软件 → 軟體) are one checkbox away.

ConvertZ compatible

A second engine reuses ConvertZ 8.02's own character table and fix lists, so results match the original. The command-line tool takes ConCmd's /i:, /o: and /f: switches.

Preview before you write

Pick a file to see the original and the result side by side. Output goes to a temporary file that is renamed into place, backups are one checkbox, and files that would not change are left alone.

Clipboard and mojibake

Convert whatever is on the clipboard from the menu bar or system tray without opening the window. Paste garbled text and RustZ guesses which encoding it was misread as.

Native on three platforms

One Rust program for macOS, Windows and Linux, with light and dark themes. Close the window and it keeps running in the Dock, the menu bar or the system tray.
