Text conversion
文字轉換 works on text rather than files: paste and convert, convert the clipboard in one click, change full/half width, or repair mojibake.

Traditional ⇄ Simplified
- Paste text into 輸入 (Input) on the left, or press 貼上 (Paste).
- Press 簡 → 繁 (Simplified → Traditional) or 繁 → 簡 (Traditional → Simplified). The result appears on the right.
- 複製 (Copy) puts the result on the clipboard; 移到輸入 (Move to input) moves it to the left so you can convert it again.
Expand 繁簡轉換設定 (Conversion settings) to change the engine, glyph standard and Taiwan vocabulary. These are the global defaults, also used by file conversion, renaming and the command-line tool.
Live conversion
Tick 即時轉換 (Live) and choose a direction; the result updates as you type, which is handy for checking word choices sentence by sentence.
Clipboard conversion
剪貼簿 簡 → 繁 and 剪貼簿 繁 → 簡 replace the text on the clipboard with its converted version: copy in another program, click in RustZ, paste back. The before and after text also appear in the input and result boxes.
When the window is in the background, the same commands are in the menu bar or tray icon — see Running in the background.
Full width and half width
- 全形 → 半形 (Full width → half width) turns full-width letters, digits and punctuation (A, 1, ,, !, the ideographic space) into their ASCII forms.
- 半形 → 全形 (Half width → full width) does the reverse.
Only the ASCII range (U+0021–U+007E and the space) is affected; Chinese characters and other symbols are left alone.
Repairing mojibake
Opening a file with the wrong encoding produces mojibake — for example, a Big5 file opened as GBK. As long as no bytes were lost, the text can be recovered:
- Paste the garbled text into 輸入 (Input).
- Set 原本的編碼 (Actual encoding) to the file's real encoding and 被誤當成 (Misread as) to the encoding it was wrongly opened with.
- Press 修復 (Repair). The result appears on the right.
If you do not know the combination, press 自動猜測 (Guess). RustZ tries them all — actual encoding Big5, GBK, UTF-8, Shift_JIS or EUC-JP; misread as GBK, Big5, Western (Latin-1), Shift_JIS or UTF-8 — scores how much each result looks like normal Chinese or Japanese, and lists the best three. Click one to apply it.
Not every mojibake can be saved
If the garbled text was saved to a file and some characters became ? on the way, those bytes are gone and the repaired text will have gaps.
